Lighting a Rental vs a Permanent Home
In a rental, prioritise fixtures you can take with you: table and floor lamps, plug-in wall sconces, and portable accent lighting do most of the work without touching the existing wiring.
Reserve permanent, wired fixtures (chandeliers, recessed downlights, under-cabinet lighting) for a home you plan to stay in, since the installation cost is the same either way but only pays off long-term.
If a rental already has working ceiling points, a well-chosen pendant or flush mount swap is usually reversible and worth doing. Keep the original fixture to reinstall before you move out.
Whichever situation you're in, request a quote for the specific fixtures you're considering before committing. It costs nothing to confirm price and availability first.
