Five Lighting Mistakes in Modern Nigerian Homes

1. Choosing fixtures before the electrical plan. Deciding on pendant positions after wiring is finished limits your options. Plan lighting alongside electrical work, not after it.

2. One light source per room. A single ceiling fixture leaves shadows and no flexibility for evening use. Layer ambient, task and accent lighting even in smaller rooms.

3. Ignoring bulb colour temperature. Mixing warm (2700K-3000K) and cool (4000K+) bulbs in the same room makes it feel unfinished, even when the fixtures themselves are well chosen.

4. Under-lighting kitchens. Overhead light alone leaves your own shadow across the counter. Under-cabinet lighting solves this cheaply and makes the biggest practical difference in the whole home.

5. Skipping outdoor lighting until last. Security and garden lighting are often an afterthought, but they're easiest and cheapest to plan alongside the rest of the property rather than adding later.
